A new way to contact HR, holiday raffle survey, work anniversaries and more
Safety Alert
On October 16, 2024, the company was involved in a serious near-miss incident. Employees were testing and setting circuit protection relays. While beginning to perform the testing, another contractor working nearby the overhead lines realized the lines were energized as he approached them. He stopped his work and contacted our crew. Our crew immediately responded and de-energized the circuit. The CPT was back-fed, energizing the primary of the transformer at 23KV. The overhead lines that feeds the CPT also became energized. Fortunately, no one was injured and no equipment was damaged.
Learning event
Be sure you complete your Hazard Assessment prior to starting the work to identify all hazards and understand how to mitigate them. Understand the circuit and equipment you are working on when testing or performing startup on a piece of equipment. Verify the wiring of the circuit and equipment to be worked on. Always develop and execute a Method of Procedure for this work to protect workers and equipment, remove guesswork and reduce human error. Never take for granted that any circuit is de-energized. ALWAYS TEST, TEST, TEST to be sure there is zero energy before you work on equipment. Follow your training.
Trademarked logo reminder for email signatures
As you know, we’ve entered a new era at Elm, now operating as an ESOP. One of our key tasks during this transition is ensuring that all communications across the business are consistent and uniform. Recently, Elm applied to trademark several of our key logos—specifically for Elm, One D&C, Piper, Palit, and PalitX—to protect the company’s assets.
The first step in this process is adding a “TM” to all of these logos across all business communications, including email signatures, presentations, websites, etc.
If you are not seeing the updated Elm logo featuring the “TM” in your email signature, please contact the IT Help Desk at help@elmelec.on.spiceworks.com.
Understanding Trademark vs. Registered Trademark
- Trademark (™): A trademark is a word, symbol, or design that identifies a product or service and its owner. While you can use a trademark without formal registration, your rights are limited to the geographic area where you use it.
- Registered Trademark (®): A registered trademark is one that has been officially registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, giving you broader protections, including nationwide rights.
In summary, the trademark symbol (™) is used for unregistered or pending trademarks, while the registered trademark symbol (®) is used only for officially registered marks.
Thank you for your attention to this important update.
