Housekeeping on jobsites and vehicle cleanliness
It has been said that, “Safety starts with a clean job site,” but it doesn’t end there.
The company has a LARGE fleet that we should all be proud of and take pride in. Most of our Elm and Piper journeyman electricians and One Development employees have been assigned to a company vehicle, and that number continues to grow. It is the responsibility of our employees, as well as the Safety Department, to make sure our jobsites are clean and free of debris, and the same goes for our company vehicles. During jobsite Safety Inspections, the Safety Department also inspects the condition of employee vehicles. While the majority of our vehicles are found in a neat and orderly condition, there have been a few that need some extra attention.
What would happen if an employee was injured on a jobsite and you needed to administer first aid? You would go to your van to get your BBP and first aid kit, right?
When you have a neat and orderly van, it shouldn’t take long to acquire this and get back to the affected employee. What about a messy or unorganized van? You could be losing valuable time digging through the van, or pulling materials out in order to find the kit, or even get into the van itself. It’s crucial that we maintain our company vehicles in a neat and orderly condition to avoid these types of situations — not only the back of the vehicle, but also let’s keep the cab clean and organized. The reflection from clutter on the dash could be distracting and cause an accident.
The Safety Department and management understand that we need to complete our projects on time and ahead of budget and that things might get a little messy from time to time. But we also know that an extra five minutes at the end of each day to clean and organize the jobsite, or company vehicle, is also necessary.
The Safety Department would like to thank everyone for their continued efforts in bringing Safety to the Next Level!
